We've been talking about setting up a mens mental health group for a while so when Olive spoke to us about using any donations from Pauls funeral for The Neighbourhood Nook it seemed like the right time. Those of you reading this probably had the pleasure of meeting Paul and feeling his lovely light shine on you, for those of you who didn't he was a wonderful person. Pauls story highlights the need for people to have holistic spaces for their well-being and for men to have safe spaces in which they can talk to others, or just show up and be themselves and have a cuppa. The Neighbourhood Nook is a Leicester based community garden that has been running for around a year on a mix of Lottery Community Fund, Post Code Lottery and Ward Council Funding. We run a range of sessions from gardening course, wellbeing sessions, women & non-binary evening session and a creative play group for families living with neurodiversity. All our sessions are shaped by those we work with and include food and drinks and where possible bus fares may be able to be substituted. This money will help pay a male team member who will be trained in both Safeguarding and Mental Health First aid, and another member to support them. As well as any materials for sessions such as firewood, food, hot drinks and materials for any activities. We believe everyone has a right to build a relationship with nature, and we also think nature can be an amazing teacher and healer in hard times.
