<div>Project Shakti to deliver menstrual care bags and educational workshops to remote Himalayan villages.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Nimsdai Foundation is proud to announce a collaborative project with Freedom Kit Bags, helping to tackle menstrual injustice in Nepal.</div><div><br /></div><div>This project will see local women and girls leading a project in Western Nepal to create Menstrual Care Bags – providing employment, empowerment and education.</div><div><br /></div><div>Project Shakti (the feminine word for energy, power, ability, might and capability) will provide work and education in the community, led by and for the women in the community.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Why is Project Shakti needed?</strong></div><div><br /></div><div>In some places in Western Nepal the traditional practise of Chhaupadi is continued. This is where menstruating women and girls are considered impure and are banished from their homes during their periods. This impacts women and girls’ education and ability to work, leading to gender-inequality.</div><div><br /></div><div><em>Did you know?</em></div><div>•    83% of girls in rural Nepal report missing school during their period.</div><div>•    Many have no access to sanitary products or basic menstrual knowledge.</div><div>•    Cultural taboos isolate women, sometimes forcing them to sleep outside.</div><div>•    Lack of information and understanding from men fosters continued stigma and silence.</div><div>•    Project Shakti ensures access, awareness, and agency for every girl and woman, so that menstruation never stands in the way of their education or dignity.</div><p style="margin:0px;width:100%;line-height:1.5;box-sizing:inherit;max-width:100%"><br /></p><div><br /></div><div>By working with and empowering the women and girls of the community, we can work together for a brighter future for all.</div><p style="margin:0px;width:100%;line-height:1.5;box-sizing:inherit;max-width:100%"><br /></p><div><br /></div><div><em>How £25 can change a life. </em></div><div><br /></div><div>Every £25 donated will allow the sourcing of materials, manufacture, delivery and training to be provided for one girl. She was kept in a dark room; was not allowed to go in sunlight not allowed to step into the sunlight and see the faces of men, or even bathe daily, despite coming from a supposedly educated background.</div><div><br /></div><p style="margin:0px;width:100%;line-height:1.5;box-sizing:inherit;max-width:100%"><br /></p><div>This situation highlights the ongoing prevalence of harmful traditional practices. As a result, the teenager found herself questioning, "Why was I born as a daughter instead of a son? Where is the meaning of my life?"</div><div>She went on to share, "This is why I once planned to take my own life, but the attempt was unsuccessful."</div><div><br /></div><p style="margin:0px;width:100%;line-height:1.5;box-sizing:inherit;max-width:100%"><br /></p><div>Through help from Project Shakti, the teenager was able to access support from a community that understands. She has now pledged her determination to challenge and overcome these baseless beliefs and practices, vowing to fight against such harmful myths from this day forward.</div><div><br /></div><p style="margin:0px;width:100%;line-height:1.5;box-sizing:inherit;max-width:100%"><br /></p><div>She said: “With the support of the kit bag, I can now live my life."</div>
