West Calder Hub is looking to install a modern electronic door entry system to improve community ownership and access to their hub after West Lothian Council withdrew all funding and support from the building. West Calder Community community took over the running of this valuable building following cost cutting measures by West Lothian Council. &nbsp;Community Centres across Scotland are now facing a significant funding risk. &nbsp;COSLA (The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities) is currently estimating a &pound;1.2B funding gap across Scottish councils in 2026-27 with almost 2000 properties, including community centres and civic halls, being sold off between 2020 and 2024 to save costs. To better manage access for community groups and ensure the building is secure West Calder Hub are looking to raise funding to install electronic door locks to the building and individual rooms to support controlled community access to the facility. As community organisations like West Calder Hub pick up the responsibility for maintaining these assets, supported by dwindling grants but facing rising running costs.
