National Norrie &nbsp;25km fundraising walk weekender. &nbsp;Raising vital funds to save our blind community from going deaf Thank you for visiting this Norrie disease fundraising weekender page. We are a group of friends and families in the UK who have come together to participate in national Norrie 25km fundraising weekender walks in order to raise money for the <a fr-original-style="" href="https://norriedisease.org.uk/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Norrie Disease Foundation</a>&nbsp; &nbsp;<a href="https://norriedisease.org.uk/" rel="noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" fr-original-style="" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; -webkit-user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;"></a> We are all connected by being a relative or a friend of someone affected by Norrie disease and seeing in real time the challenges presented to them. Our hope is this national Norrie fundraiser could be pivotal in changing their lives by treating the progressive &nbsp;hearing loss amongst the Norrie community who are already born blind due to the condition. The hearing loss Is one of the biggest and most devastating &nbsp;struggles that they face. The Norrie fundraising walk weekender hopes to raise money which will drive life changing hearing loss treatment towards clinical trials. We are closer than ever to our goal and this is part of the final push. Norrie disease is an ultra rare condition causing mostly boys to be born blind with progressive hearing loss from childhood. Those living with Norrie disease say the hearing loss is the hardest part because they are completely reliant on their hearing to compensate for their lack of vision. Everyday things that we take for granted are so much harder and the hearing loss is devastating, impacting massively on social opportunities, education, mobility &amp; work. Josh, a seventeen year old who lives with the condition recognises the hearing loss as one of the hardest parts of the condition, and says he wouldn&rsquo;t want sight but would do anything to keep his hearing. We are hopeful that the next few years will be an exciting period for the Norrie Disease Foundation. &nbsp;Through collaboration and working closely with researchers from University College London, Great Ormond Street Institute Of Child Health we now have a far clearer picture of what this treatment will look like. Making our goal a reality would change lives not only for those living with the condition now but also for generations to come. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
