A bioregional and systems approach for river enthusiasts Schedule: Spring 2026Six 90-minute online sessions from 18:00-19:30 held fortnightly from Tuesday 3rd March 2026.-&gt; Session 2 from 18:00-19:30 on 17th March 2026.1-day fieldtrip in Devon in May/June (TBC) Rivers are one of the most powerful entry points into bioregional practice. They reveal how land, water, infrastructure, governance, climate and culture interact across a landscape. This six-session online course, delivered by the Bioregional Learning Centre from South Devon, offers a grounded introduction to river and catchment science through a systems and regenerative lens. Designed for river enthusiasts, citizen scientists and emerging bioregional practitioners across the UK and Europe, it builds scientific literacy alongside systems thinking, equipping participants to understand, diagnose and help regenerate the rivers in their own bioregions. Rivers are more than channels of water. They are living systems shaped by geology, rainfall, soil, land use, infrastructure, culture and governance. They connect uplands to estuaries, farms to towns, people to place. This six-session online course offers a grounded introduction to river and catchment science through a systems-thinking and regenerative lens. It is designed for river enthusiasts, citizen scientists, community groups and emerging bioregional practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of how rivers function &mdash; and how they can be restored. Rooted in the landscapes of South Devon but relevant to any bioregion, the course builds scientific literacy alongside practical diagnostic skills and place-based insight. Introduction to rivers & catchment science (6-Session Online Course)

Bioregional Learning Days 2026 &ndash; July Cohort 🌱&nbsp; BLC&rsquo;s residential course is a 5-day immersion into place and practice for bioregional practitioners from the UK and beyond. Designed to deliver the &ldquo;why&rdquo; and the &ldquo;how to&rdquo;, you will explore theory, strategies, partnership working, long-term project development, story, data and sense-making in order to be able to apply a range of approaches at home with your own collaborators. The programme emphasizes practical ways of working, both locally and with other bioregions, and delivers essential core competencies for bioregional practice, nuggets of wisdom about systems and complexity, case studies, tools and techniques. Includes time outdoors, sensing practices, small-group discussion and design, a journey or two beyond the farm, shared meals and conversation around the campfire. Your guides will be the BLC team, who are experienced and skilled practitioners, alongside the Ambios team and special guests. The venue is Ambios&rsquo; working farm; learning spaces, rewilding fields, market garden, beautiful views for reflection and a barn, complete with hay bales. The learning will begin right here on the farm, boots in the mud. By deeply experiencing this place, you will learn to identify and understand the potential inherent in your place.&nbsp;
