Ein cenhadaeth yw dathlu treftadaeth ddaearegol ragorol yr ynys, hyrwyddo datblygiad cynaliadwy, ac ysbrydoli cymunedau trwy addysg a thwristiaeth. GeoMôn is the organisation responsible for managing Anglesey’s UNESCO Global Geopark. Our mission is to celebrate the island’s outstanding geological heritage, promote sustainable development, and inspire communities through education and tourism.

What to expect:Join us for an immersive wander through landscapes layered in deep time. You will be guided to connect creatively with the geology and local heritage as we follow the coastal path from Porth Amlwch to the historic holy well, Ffynnon Eilian. Our leisurely pace with regular stops will give us the time and space to observe and experience our surroundings. Trustee of GeoM&ocirc;n and geologist Maia Whomsley-Walker will share the story of how time and geological forces have shaped the land around us, as well as what it means to think and see geologically. Artist and Eco-Therapist Caroline Schofield from Guided by Nature will guide us in connecting with our environment and the elements through our senses. You will receive artistic prompts and ideas about how to make expressive field notes, letting the rhythm of the earth guide your hand to make unfiltered marks on paper. You do not need to be an artist, but you will need to bring your own sketch book plus a few basic art materials of your choice (such as pencils, charcoal stick or pastels). Please note that this event is run in English, although Maia speaks Welsh and would be happy to chat and translate as needed! The Art of Awe: a guided GeoMôn walk

The Earth&#39;s Own Life: a mini-symposium brings together two women who have spent many hours researching the works and lives of geologists Edward and Annie Greenly. The event will be made up of two talks, each 20min long with a 10min Q&amp;A, by Judith Noble and Maia Whomsley-Walker. These talks will be accompanied by a tour of the Watch House exhibition by Judith, and a chance to hold some of the many rocks that inspired the Greenlys. This mini-symposium marks the opening of a temporary exhibition at the Watch House of new work by Judith Noble, inspired by the lives and work of geologists Edward and Annie Greenly: The Earth&#39;s Own Life. All talks are given in English, although Maia Speaks Welsh and will be able to answer questions and give tours of the exhibition bilingually. The Earth&rsquo;s Own LifeA talk and exhibition tour by Judith NobleIn this talk, artist Judith Noble will discuss her fascination with the work and lives of Edward and Annie Greenly. She will explain how the body of work exhibited at the Watch House was created over five years of close observation and recording of one site at Rhosneigr, using various media including photography, sea water printing, book creation and textiles. The work is inspired by the Greenlys&rsquo; writings and drawings, and mirrors in its processes and recording of tidal and seasonal patterns, their observations on change and time. Judith Noble (nee Higginbottom) is an artist and Professor Emerita at Art University Plymouth who grew up in Ynys M&ocirc;n. The landscapes and geology of the island have inspired her work for over fifty years, providing locations and images for moving image and installation works. The Geology of RhosneigrA talk by Maia Whomsley-Walker (featuring real rocks!)In this talk, Maia will lead us through the geological story of the rocks exposed at an near Traeth Rhosneigr, a story spanning almost half a billion years of Earth&#39;s history. We will learn how the incredible folds observed on the beach came to be, and what they mean for the history of Ynys M&ocirc;n. Maia Whomsley-Walker is a trustee, social media manager, and researcher for GeoM&ocirc;n who grew up at the edge of Eryri. She is an early-career geologist whose research has included chemical analyses of the clays at Parys Mountain, geological mapping in Newborough Forest, radio-carbon dating of the drowned forest at Trearddur Bay, and fault mapping in the Swiss Alps. The Earth's Own Life: A Mini-Symposium

As part of UNESCO&rsquo;s Local to Global Programme, GeoM&ocirc;n UNESCO Global Geopark is excited to invite you to a special one-day workshop and field excursion. Together, we&rsquo;ll explore how Anglesey&rsquo;s breathtaking natural and cultural heritage can inspire and support the health and wellbeing of our local communities.This is your chance to help shape new, meaningful initiatives that blend your expertise in supporting individuals and groups facing personal or social challenges with our deep knowledge of the island&rsquo;s history and landscapes.&nbsp;By combining GeoM&ocirc;n&rsquo;s fascinating geological stories with your skills, we can create unique, therapeutic experiences that foster connection, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for our natural heritage. We&rsquo;re thrilled to collaborate with Medrwn M&ocirc;n who give support to voluntary organisations across Anglesey and, with Mind over Mountains, a charity that provides professional mental fitness support through expert-led walks in nature, guided by wellbeing coaches and counsellors. Join this one‑day workshop and field excursion hosted by GeoM&ocirc;n Global Geopark as part of the UNESCO Local to Global Programme. What to expect:This photography workshop will focus around telling the story of Traeth Llanddwyn through its ecology, geology and geography. The evening will be a chance for you to improve your photography and storytelling skills in a social setting, and learn about the history of Ynys Llanddwyn: from 880 million years ago right up to present day. Please feel free to bring along examples of your own work to show off and share during this workshop! We will explore the dune ecosystem as well as the world famous geological outcrops of pillow basalt and melange, formed in an ocean that no longer exists. Finally, as the sun begins to set, we will observe how the light dances with the many stories of Ynys Llanddwyn. Please note that this walk will take place in English, although Maia speaks Welsh and would be happy to chat and answer questions in Welsh! Storytelling through Landscape Photography -  Guided Walk and Workshop

An outdoor creative writing workshop inspired by the geology of Traeth Lleiniog led by geologist Maia Whomsley-Walker. We will begin with an hour exploring the glacial boulders and gravels of the beach, and learning their geological story from first observations up. You will learn about how to make geological observations, and what we look for when we tell the stories of these rocks. After this Maia will lead a series of creative writing prompts inspired by the geological observations and stories of the beach, as well as a selection of readings. You don&#39;t need to be a writer, poet or geologist, just come along and have a go! Meeting point: Traeth Lleiniog picnic site and carpark (///brightens.regret.leans)Public Transport:&nbsp;Nearest bus stop is at the Plas Penmon Nursing Home, 5min walk away along quiet roads.Distance: 1.5kmDuration: 2hr (+/- 30min)What to bring:&nbsp;Your own writing book and stationary, plus snacks and water. You may also choose to bring something to sit on, as we will be standing or sitting on boulders/sand while me make our observations and writings. Accessibility and terrain:The walk will take place along the beach, so expect uneven cobbles, rockpools and sand. The walk will thus require a reasonable level of fitness and mobility, but will be taken at a meandering pace. We will be near some sections of unstable cliff, and you are thus expected to stay away from the cliffs for reasons of safety. You must wear the correct clothes for the weather on the day, plus sturdy shoes/boots suitable for walking on sand, cobbles, and uneven terrain. Unfortunately there are no toilets available on site. Underfoot can be muddy, bouldery and rocky, so take care and in particular stay away from cliff edges &ndash; the grass and gravel can be slippery at this time of year. &nbsp; What if it rains?&nbsp;We will get wet- sensible footwear and good wet weather gear is always wise. &nbsp; What are the highlights?&nbsp;This is one of the most spectacular parts of the Anglesey Coastal &nbsp;Path, showing complex relationships between the geology and the geomorphology of the &nbsp;rugged coastal cliffs and hinterland. What caused the distinctive white and red staining in the quartzite cliffs along this part of the coast? What formed the two famous coastal arches of Bwa Gwyn and Bwa Du &ndash; natural geological features or supposedly dug out for kaolin &nbsp;extraction? There are good examples of Palaeozoic thrust faults, normal faults and folds in &nbsp;these rocks, capped off with the usual scattering of thin glacial deposits.&nbsp; Refreshments:&nbsp;Please bring your own snacks and drinks for the walk.
