Little Ripples

Little Ripples supports children affected by a family member's cancer, providing resources and guidance to help them cope and feel less alone. We empower their voices and work with adults to ensure every child gets the support they need.

On Saturday 5th September 2026, Valerie will take on one of the most iconic open water challenges in England. She is swimming the full 11 mile length of Lake Windermere as part of Chillswim Windermere 2026, and she is doing it for children and young people who know something about keeping going when things get hard.Lake Windermere is the longest lake in England. Swimming its full length from one end to the other takes strength, determination, and a willingness to keep going long after the easy part is over. Every stroke Valerie takes creates a ripple, and those ripples reach children and young people navigating one of the hardest things a family can face. When someone they love is diagnosed with cancer, children need support, information, and a space to make sense of what they are feeling. Too often, they are the ones nobody thinks to ask. Little Ripples exists to change that. We are a registered charity supporting children and young people affected by cancer in a parent, grandparent, sibling, or close friend. We develop digital resources designed to reach families across the UK, and we are working to embed these into NHS referral pathways so that no child is left without support at the point of diagnosis.Valerie is doing the hard miles.
