Nest Creative Spaces

LXCL:<h4 class="lxcl-h4" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Nest Creative Spaces &amp; Craft Reuse Hub aims to connect people through creativity, improving wellbeing and reducing loneliness. Our vibrant community space welcomes people of all ages and abilities to volunteer, create, share skills and learn together.</h4> Each time you attend one of our events you are supporting our mission and contributing to out fundraising to keep our services available to all. Bind your own journal and experience the joyful mindfulness activity of bookbinding at a step-by-step workshop lead by Perthshire Artisan, Jan Curle. You will create an A6 sized journal with a botanical-patterned cork leather cover and will wax colourful linen threads before stitching the pages. Each stage will draw you deeper into this enjoyable traditional craft, you&rsquo;ll soon be engrossed.All materials and refreshments are included. This workshop is suitable for beginners (16+ years), and a small amount of manual dexterity is required. Bookbinding needles and awls should be handled with care. Make sure you bring your glasses as there is close work involved. You will be given written instructions to take home at the end of the workshop. Attendees are asked to arrive by 1.15pm, please to ensure we can start on time.

Wrap your gifts in fabric, not paper, and keep useful materials in circulation. 🎁Using decorative cloth as a means to wrap gifts has been a part of Japanese culture for centuries. &ldquo;Furoshiki&rdquo; makes the art of gift giving more personalised and special. Come along to this eco-friendly gift wrapping workshop to find out more about this art and learn how to wrap a variety of items, including a wine bottle in fabric using the environmentally friendly Furoshiki technique.&nbsp; You&rsquo;ll be provided with fabric from our remnant store and guided through the stages to practise the technique that you can use in the future for all your gift wrapping needs.✂️&nbsp;

Learn to knit socks from the ground up 🧶🧦&nbsp;This is a six-week course that will aim to demystify knitting with 4 double point needles, also known as &quot;dpns&quot;. No experience of knitting in the round with 4 double pointed needles is needed. We will have people of differing experiences and expectations who can work together so we all learn how to knit socks. This sock will be a &lsquo;practice piece&rsquo; for you to learn on. If you cannot make the full 6 weeks you can book for each date you are able to attend. Each week will progress from casting on and using the 4 needles &lsquo;in the round&rsquo; - to make the cuff, down the leg to the heel flap, heel turning, making the foot and then the toe shaping: ending with the &lsquo;Kitchener&rsquo; stitch closure. Tools &amp; MaterialsPlease bring with you a ball of sock or 4 ply yarn. The yarn works best with some wool content, but you can choose other yarns if you prefer, or if there&rsquo;s an issue with wool. Needles:&nbsp;socks require a closer fabric to be knitted, thus 4 x 2.25, 2.5 or 2.75 mm double-point needles (dpns) will be needed, depending on if you are a loose or tight knitter. Yarn and/or needles may be purchased on the course if needed.

Sock Knitting with Double Point Needles

Create a seasonal wreath using rescued papers and fabrics at our Autumn Wreath Workshop 🍂. Learn simple techniques to make a variety of floral shapes using vibrant patterned papers and an assortment of fabrics.&nbsp; With step-by-step demonstrations, you&rsquo;ll explore different techniques to create stunning handmade flowers and leaves, then you can choose to stitch or use a glue gun to secure them onto your wreath. This hands-on session supports Nest Creative Spaces&rsquo; mission to foster creativity and a circular economy. No experience is needed&mdash;we&rsquo;ll provide tools, guidance, and a relaxed space to experiment and reuse together.

Autumn Wreath Workshop

This course is designed for those who are already comfortable using a sewing machine and have a good understanding of the basics. It is suitable for anyone who has previously completed Nest&#39;s Learn to Sew course or has equivalent sewing experience.﻿ Take the next step in your sewing journey and build your confidence in garment making with this two-day intermediate workshop. Working over two consecutive days, you&#39;ll learn techniques that will help you create well-finished, wearable clothing while developing your sewing skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Throughout the workshop, you&#39;ll be guided through garment construction techniques, including accurate cutting, fitting, assembling and finishing methods, helping you achieve professional-looking results and giving you the confidence to tackle future dressmaking projects at home.&nbsp;Come ready to sew, learn, and experiment. ✂️🌱 All sewing machines, equipment and sewing supplies are provided, along with tea and biscuits. Please bring your own lunch.

Intermediate Garments - 2 days

At our Reuse &amp; Repair Fair, you&rsquo;ll find stalls selling:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">a wealth of craft materials both new and part used at bargain prices</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">craft items that have been upcycled or made by reusing and repurposing materials&nbsp;by people who care about keeping useful things out of the landfill</li></ul> ♻️&nbsp;You can also meet the team from the Blairgowrie &amp; Rattray Repair Cafe made up of local fixers, who can discuss any repair needs and arrange for your items to be fixed.

Reuse & Repair Fair

Learn the basics of sewing in a relaxed, small-group setting. Over three weeks, you&rsquo;ll practice on real projects, build confidence with a sewing machine. Specially designed for complete beginners, the course will guide you through all the essential sewing skills, from threading your machine and understanding fabrics to mastering neat seams and finishing techniques. 🧵 Dates are not all consecutive:Week 1 Sunday 11 OctoberWeek 2 Sunday 18 OctoberSkip a week to work on projects at home&nbsp;Week 3 Sunday 1 November Each week, you&rsquo;ll work on practical and fun garment projects helping you to develop your skills step by step. By the end of the course, you&rsquo;ll have a strong foundation in sewing and a collection of handmade items to be proud of.Initial materials and sewing machines will be provided, then Clemmie will discuss options with you for each weekly project. This class supports Nest Creative Spaces&rsquo; focus on creativity and sustainability. Bring fabric you&rsquo;d like to reuse, and leave with skills you can keep building on at home. No prior experience needed. ✂️

Learn to Sew: 3 Week Course

Turn offcuts into one‑of‑a‑kind leather jewellery 🧵✨ In this hands-on workshop, you&rsquo;ll learn simple techniques to cut, shape, and assemble discarded leather into earrings, pendants, and small accessories. Guided by our tutor Sheila, you&rsquo;ll work with rescued materials, explore colour and texture, and leave with finished pieces you can wear or gift. Jewellery findings such as earring wires, jump rings, wire, small pieces of chain and beads will also be provided. If you have any beads or embellishments, such as pre-loved chain you would like to use please bring them along. You will be shown how to use the necessary tools such as pliers and a hole punch safely. Please remember to bring your glasses for close work if you need them. Making Leather Jewellery

Sew a simple fabric tissue holder using reclaimed materials and learn easy techniques you can reuse in other projects. &nbsp;Ideal to use in your handbag or to give as gifts. This beginner-friendly session is hands-on, relaxed, and guided step by step 🧵. Materials will be provided but if you have some fabric you would like to use please bring it along. You will need a piece of fabric 7x5 inches and a matching piece of fabric 6x5 inches. We&rsquo;ll work with rescued fabrics and offcuts, turning what might be waste into something useful for everyday life.&nbsp; By registering, you support Nest Creative Spaces&rsquo; mission to grow creativity and keep materials in use, not in landfill 🌱.

Fabric Tissue Holder

Stitch some spooky charm while keeping waste out of landfill 👻Get into the Halloween spirit and create your own spooktacular washing line style bunting to decorate your home! Perfect for families, this fun and relaxed workshop is a great opportunity to get creative together. Using a colourful selection of fabrics, felt, ribbons and Halloween-themed embellishments, you&#39;ll design and make a unique string of bunting featuring pumpkins, ghosts, bats, spiders, witches&#39; hats and more. Whether you like your Halloween decorations spooky or cute, there&#39;s plenty of inspiration and materials to help bring your ideas to life.&nbsp; No experience needed&mdash;our friendly tutor will guide you through each step, making this workshop suitable for beginners and children (with adult support where needed). 🎃

Halloween Bunting Workshop

Turn leftover fabric into something useful and fun. In this hands-on session, you&rsquo;ll learn how to sew a simple corner bookmark using reclaimed textiles, helping keep materials in use and out of landfill 📚. For each bookmark you will need 3 x matching 4 inch squares of fabric. We will provide fabric for the course but if you have done you would like to use bring it along and have some fun. All skill levels are welcome. We&rsquo;ll provide rescued fabric, basic tools, and guidance so you can slow down, make thoughtfully, and go home with a bookmark that tells its own reuse story 🧵.

Fabric Corner Bookmark

Design your own resin necklace using small offcuts, found objects, and rescued materials. Learn simple techniques, from mixing resin safely, bevel shapes and adding colour and texture. Coloured pigments and other craft items such as press flowers &amp; leaves, lace and coloured sparkles can be added to the resin to make your unique necklace. Cord and chain will be provided to complete your piece.&nbsp;

Resin Necklace Workshop

Learn the basics and start your crochet journey with confidence 🧶&nbsp; This month we will, focus on working in rows, a fundamental crochet skill and forms the basis of many projects, from scarves and blankets to garments and home accessories.&nbsp; Throughout the session, you&#39;ll receive step-by-step guidance and plenty of support as you practise maintaining even stitches and how to turn your work. All materials are provided, using reclaimed yarn where possible 🌱 Nest Creative Spaces supports creativity and sustainability, so you&rsquo;ll build new skills while seeing how craft can support a circular, low‑waste lifestyle.

Beginners Crochet: Working in Rows

Get comfortable with your sewing machine and keep textiles in use longer ✂️ Come to our friendly evening session to learn about sewing machine functions and how they look on your machine, including changing needles and feet, threading, backstitching, stitch length, tension and zigzag stitches.&nbsp; Bring your own machine! 🧵 All other supplies are available at Nest, including tea, coffee and biscuits. Clemmie will guide you through understanding the main parts of your machine, troubleshooting common issues, and practising basic stitches in a friendly, supportive environment.&nbsp; By the end of the session, you&rsquo;ll feel more comfortable setting up your machine at home and ready to begin simple sewing projects. A great first step into sewing while making the most of the machine you already have.

Get to Know Your Sewing Machine

Shape, twist, and play with colour as you learn simple wire and bead techniques to create small decorations for your tree. 🌲 Demonstrations will be given on how to use pliers to shape and manipulate wire. Hands on support throughout the session will enable you to complete your own items and use these techniques to make more in your own time Using rescued and reclaimed materials, you&rsquo;ll design unique pieces to take home while exploring how creative reuse keeps resources in our community and out of landfill 🌱. No experience needed&mdash;just curiosity and a willingness to experiment alongside others who care about creativity and sustainability.

Wire & Bead Decorations

Create a natural Christmas wreath using&nbsp;locally foraged greenery🎄&nbsp;With guidance from Kelly McIntyre learn simple techniques to build a beautiful, long‑lasting wreath without relying on plastic or wasteful decor. Under Kelly&#39;s guidance, you&rsquo;ll be working with pine cones, berries, dried orange slices, and other seasonal treasures. Each wreath will be completely unique &ndash; a reflection of your creativity and the natural beauty of the season. This workshop is perfect for all skill levels and offers a relaxed, social atmosphere where you can unwind, meet others, and enjoy some festive cheer. We&rsquo;ll provide all materials and tools &ndash; many of which are reused or repurposed to help reduce waste and celebrate eco-friendly creativity. By the end of the session, you&rsquo;ll take home a beautiful, biodegradable wreath to adorn your door and the satisfaction of having crafted something special in a sustainable way.

Natural Christmas Wreath

Give your clothes a second life 👕♻️ by learning simple ways to alter, mend, and refashion what you already own. Bring pieces that don&rsquo;t quite fit or feel dated and explore creative options to make them work for you again. We&rsquo;ll cover making garments longer or shorter, smaller or bigger, splicing two garments together, adding pockets and using original features to make something completely new. This course is for sewers with experience using a sewing machine or who&rsquo;ve completed the Learn to Sew course at Nest. At Nest Creative Spaces, we focus on reuse, repair, and upcycling to keep textiles out of landfill. This session is hands-on, supportive, and open to all skill levels&mdash;come curious and ready to experiment. This class is run on 2 consecutive dates: Sunday 29th November and Sunday 6th December.

Altering & Refashioning Clothes

Join us at Nest Creative Spaces for a friendly introduction to crochet, perfect for absolute beginners or those looking to refresh their skills. 🧶&nbsp; In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, run every month, you&#39;ll learn the basics of crochet, including how to hold your hook, work simple stitches to create the classic granny square. Granny squares are a great starting point for new crocheters &mdash; they&rsquo;re small, versatile, and ideal for using up leftover yarn, and can be put together to make everything from a blanket to a bag to a cardigan. Once you&#39;ve mastered the &quot;Granny&quot; there are over 200 other block designs you can try! Light refreshments are included.&nbsp; All materials are provided, using reclaimed yarn where possible 🌱 Nest Creative Spaces supports creativity and sustainability, so you&rsquo;ll build new skills while seeing how craft can support a circular, low‑waste lifestyle.

Beginners Crochet: Granny Squares

Join us to sew your own reusable fabric Christmas crackers 🎄 and skip the single-use waste this year. We&rsquo;ll guide you step by step, with rescued and upcycled materials ready to use. Sheila will guide you through selecting fabrics, sewing the cracker shape, and adding decorative touches like ribbons, buttons, and other decorative materials. A sewing machine will be used to create the body of the cracker. Feel free to bring along any surprises you want to put inside, such as small handmade gifts or festive treats or even a miniature of someone&#39;s favourite tipple! Perfect for all skill levels, this sustainable twist on a classic holiday tradition allows you to craft crackers that can be enjoyed year after year, reducing waste while adding a personalised touch to your festive celebrations.&nbsp;✂️
