NPLB Community Interest Company

NPLB Community Interest Company revitalizes neglected urban spaces through community-led gardening projects. They empower locals to transform areas into beautiful, safe environments, fostering connection and sustainability while enhancing biodiversity.

The Patchwork Project is a UK-wide initiative giving individuals, families, and communities the tools to transform even the smallest patch of ground into a thriving wildlife sanctuary. Each Patchwork Project Rewilding Pack, will be designed by landscape architects and ecologists, includes seed mixes, planting layouts, and species guides—everything you will need to create a tiny ecosystem that supports pollinators, birds, amphibians, and mammals. From balconies and schoolyards to gardens and park edges, each patch becomes a stepping-stone for wildlife. When stitched together across the country, these patches form a national patchwork of hope: thousands of small wild spaces reconnecting fragmented habitats and people. As Amy Alexandra Marsden, founder of No Plant Left Behind, says:“You don’t need acres to make a difference — just a doormat’s worth of care.” Why it matters

The UK has lost nearly 50% of its biodiversity since the Industrial Revolution (CEH)

97% of wildflower meadows have disappeared since the 1930s (National Trust)

Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators are in steep decline (WWF UK)

Hedgehogs in rural areas have dropped by 50% since 2000 (The Guardian)

By donating to the Patchwork Project, you’re helping us:

Deliver rewilding packs to communities across the UK

Transform overlooked spaces into small but vital habitats

Inspire thousands of people to take hands-on climate-positive action

Build a connected network of wild spaces, supporting wildlife and communities alike

Every contribution helps us stitch together the next patch of hope, creating a landscape where wildlife can thrive and people feel part of the natural world.

Patchwork Project: Rewilding the UK, One Patch at a Time

Esme and Luke: Designing the Future of Forgotten Landscapes Esme and Luke, two passionate early-career designers, are stepping into a unique opportunity to reimagine overlooked landscapes and invite people to engage with their rich, biodiverse stories. Supported by No Plant Left Behind, a Modern Landscape Architecture movement that celebrates the ways people and nature shape each other, they are creating a “pocket planting” that breathes life back into traditional brownfield sites often left forgotten by society. This project celebrates the quiet resilience of nature—standing deadwood, slow-growing wildflowers, and the earliest stages of ecological succession—demonstrating how, with gentle guidance, these neglected spaces can transform into thriving habitats for wildlife and welcoming havens for communities. By supporting this project, you’re not just helping restore biodiversity; you’re investing in the next generation of designers. You’re giving Esme and Luke the chance to lead, experiment, and create immersive experiences that connect people to nature in imaginative, hands-on ways. Together, we can rewild lives as well as landscapes. The journey begins with an exhibition, designed to reach thousands of visitors, featuring the landscape itself and an interactive art element that encourages reflection and engagement. From there, the pocket planting will find its permanent home along a busy but currently neglected canal towpath in the heart of London. A local community group is ready to care for the space long-term, ensuring it provides year-round interest, inspiration, and connection for everyone who passes by.
