St Mary the Virgin, Bruton

St Mary the Virgin, Bruton is dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and community connection through worship, outreach, and support. They aim to serve all, promoting love, compassion, and inclusivity in their local community.

Following the success of his Winter Yards Band tour, Steve Knightley is delighted to announce Sanctuary – Songs from Sacred Spaces. Known for his songs of history and location, Steve will create an evening of material beautifully matched to these resonant church, chapel and ancient building venues, chosen for their atmosphere and acoustic warmth. The concerts will also feature Dan Salvatore, whose haunting hand pan soundscapes add a meditative, ambient dimension to the evening. Expect stripped-back arrangements, strong storytelling, and a focus on the relationship between song, space, and listener.

The Benefice of Bruton (Bruton, Pitcombe, Redlynch, Brewham, Shepton Montague, Wyke Champflower, and Bratton Seymour) invites you to join us for the Community Harvest Barn Dance 🎵 This year we’re having a combine harvester (sorry) comprising a quiz, a raffle, a supper, AND dancing (not all at the same time of course), and we once again welcome Teasing the Cat to call and play! This is not a fundraiser, but a funraiser, where young, old, dancers, non-dancers, and anyone of any profession can meet together to simply have a lovely evening away from everything else.

Founded in January 2022, South West Baroque Orchestra is the period instrument orchestra of the South West. We play Baroque music to a high standard and perform concerts throughout the region, particularly in areas which do not usually have concerts of Early Music. Members travel far and wide to play together and come from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Bristol and Gloucestershire.SWBO has performed at Wells, Exeter and Truro Cathedrals, and also at Sherborne Abbey. Elsewhere, Afternoon Tea Concerts are a speciality! Our last Tea Concert was at All Saints’ Church in Bristol in July 2024 (which was described by a concert-goer as ‘one of the highlights of my concert year!’) and since then we have given an evening performance of Handel’s Dixit Dominus with the Collegium Singers at St. James’ Church in Taunton, where SWBO played the Telemann Concerto in D for Viola da Gamba (soloist Jacqui Robertson-Wade) in the first half of the concert.🎻 Baroque works will be played on period instruments, offering a vivid glimpse into the sound-world that has shaped worship and community for centuries. Your presence helps St Mary’s remain an active, welcoming parish church for Bruton and the surrounding villages 🙏.
