The Pennypit Community Development Trust enhances health and well-being through sport, community engagement, and nutrition. Focused on tackling poverty and inequality, they empower local residents to access equal opportunities in a supportive environment.

The Pennypit Community Development Trust is a local charity that was established in the early 1990&rsquo;s by East Lothian Council to improve health and well-being through sport, community development, nutrition, family engagement and volunteer development. We are inclusive to all members of the PSG community with a key focus on tackling poverty and reducing inequalities. This year, Chris and Lola have set themselves a new challenge &mdash; running 50 miles for The Pennypit Trust to raise vital funds for our Festive Provision. This isn&#39;t just their challenge but all of ours. This challenge is about more than 50 miles. It&rsquo;s about community, kindness and making sure nobody is forgotten. Last year, Chris and Lola raised an incredible &pound;3,000+ through their boxing challenge, helping us provide Christmas food bags, New Year Steak Pies, presents for children and young people, winter essentials and Christmas Day Social Isolation Bags &mdash; including a dinner and special treat for people who may otherwise have spent Christmas alone.They also saw the impact first-hand when delivering to local households. &ldquo;You don&rsquo;t know what&rsquo;s on your doorstep. She began her Pennypit journey volunteering with our holiday programmes, seeing the difference that opportunities, support and kindness can make to children, young people and families. WHY DO WE DO THIS APPEAL?Many children and families in our communities continue to be affected by the challenges of recent years, and for some, the winter months ahead may bring additional financial pressures. Christmas should be a time of joy, excitement and togetherness, but for many families, it can also be a difficult time. By donating a gift to a child in our local community &mdash; Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Cockenzie, Port Seton, Longniddry and Blindwells &mdash; you can help make Christmas a little brighter and extra special for them. Through our link with the Pennypit Trust, who work tirelessly throughout the year to support local families, we are aware that over 650 families in our community currently require support. This year marks the FIFTH year of The Angel Tree Appeal, and we have seen first-hand the incredible difference that your generosity can make. Every gift, no matter how big or small, can bring a smile to a child&#39;s face and help a family experience the magic of Christmas. We are particularly keen to support older children and teenagers, who can sometimes be overlooked when it comes to Christmas giving. These can be handed in at your local participating library, community centre or golf club, where they will be collected and distributed as part of the appeal.
