Help us raise our goal of &pound;100,000 for cancer research in 2026 in the name of Canada&#39;s hero, Terry Fox. &nbsp; We hold the iconic event, the Terry Fox Run across the UK to come together as a community to honour loved ones, celebrate Terry, and raise money for cancer research. In 1980, Terry Fox started a marathon against cancer. Together, we can end it. Terry Fox, a 22-year-old Canadian athlete who lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma, made headlines in 1980 when he ran 3,339 miles across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer research. &nbsp;During his Marathon of Hope, he averaged a marathon a day every day for 143 days&nbsp;having a unique running style as he used a prosthetic leg. His mission was cut short before he finished as he was diagnosed on his run that cancer had returned to his lungs. &nbsp;He died less than a year later on June 28, 1981, a month shy of his 23rd birthday. Since his death, thousands of Terry Fox runs have been held each September in Canada and throughout the world in his name which have raised more than &pound;550 million for cancer research. All money raised will stay in the UK for The Institute of Cancer Research, London (ICR). &nbsp;The ICR is one of the world&#39;s oldest and most influential cancer research institutes. Their 800-strong body of scientists and clinicians based in laboratories in Chelsea and Sutton are working on a broad spectrum of research, from understanding the underlying biological causes of cancer through to designing and testing the latest cutting-edge therapies. Join us around the UK to celebrate Canada&#39;s hero while raising money for cancer research. Together, we can finish cancer.
