Building Confidence & Self-Esteem in Children An online workshop for parents who want to help their children develop genuine confidence, resilience and self-belief. As parents, we all want our children to believe in themselves. But how do we actually help that happen? Confidence isn’t something children simply have. It develops through experience — trying things, getting things wrong, facing challenges, solving problems and gradually discovering: "I can do difficult things.” This practical online workshop will explore how parents can create the right balance of encouragement, support, challenge and boundaries to help children develop genuine confidence and self-esteem. What We’ll Explore Understanding confidence and self-esteem What is the difference between confidence and self-esteem? How do relationships, experiences, competence and achievement influence the way children see themselves? Confidence comes from doing Why telling a child *“You can do it!”* isn’t always enough — and how giving children opportunities to try, struggle and succeed can build much stronger self-belief. Helping children face challenges How can parents encourage children to try something difficult without pushing them too far? We’ll explore the balance between support and challenge. The role of mistakes and failure How we respond when things go wrong can have a powerful impact on a child’s confidence. We’ll look at ways to help children learn from setbacks rather than becoming afraid of them. Praise, encouragement and confidence-building Does praising children make them more confident? We’ll explore what different types of praise and encouragement communicate to children and how to focus on genuine progress and effort. Boundaries, expectations and compassion Being supportive doesn’t mean removing every difficulty. We’ll explore how warmth, clear boundaries and appropriate expectations can help children feel secure while developing independence. Gentle parenting and permissive parenting What’s the difference? We’ll consider how parents can be emotionally responsive and respectful while still maintaining boundaries, expectations and consequences. Helping children become more independent Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is step back. We’ll explore how parents can give children appropriate responsibility and opportunities to discover what they are capable of. Restorative approaches at home An introduction to restorative approaches and how reflection, responsibility and repairing relationships can help children learn from difficult situations. What You’ll Take Away By the end of the workshop, you’ll have practical ideas for helping your child: * Try new things and take appropriate risks* Cope with mistakes and setbacks* Become more independent* Develop greater self-belief* Handle challenges more confidently* Understand that struggling doesn’t mean they can’t succeed* Take responsibility while knowing they are supported Most importantly, you’ll have a clearer understanding of **how confidence is actually built** — and how the things we do as parents can either create opportunities for confidence to grow or unintentionally get in the way. This isn’t about raising children who never struggle. It’s about helping them discover: I can do difficult things.
