BIO

AJ Higgins is a comic-book artist and illustrator based in Cornwall. She spent her childhood with the Beano and Moomins, which are significant influences on her current work. Her cartoons highlight some of the challenging dilemmas of modern life, such as whether it is ever ok to move a sleeping cat! Her work can be seen on surfboards and beer cans, and knitted into scarves. Her use of bright colours and happy faces creates a deep sense of joy and playfulness, which is evident throughout her work.

Alice Pattullo is an illustrator based in East London. She has a varied commercial illustration practice, working with clients including Faber, Fortnum & Mason, Crabtree & Evelyn, Quarto, and Kew Gardens. Alongside her commissioned work, her personal practice focuses on British traditions, sayings, rhymes, folklore and superstitions. She creates these as limited edition screen prints.

BIO

Aysha Tengiz is a contemporary illustrator who worked with Lliana Bird on Baboo the Unusual Bee, published in 2023. Baboo the Unusual Bee was a CBeebies Bedtime Story in 2025, read by the Irish singer-songwriter CMAT. Tengiz was born in Brighton, and grew up in an island on the Aegean Sea and the English countryside. Alongside her illustration commission work, she continues with her own projects, in her colourful, playful and joyful illustrative style.

BIO

Ben Javens is a UK-based artist who is the main illustrator and designer for Studio Anorak, and their children’s magazines, Anorak and dot. The guiding light for Javens and Studio Anorak is the importance of children having space to dream, create, play and laugh. Their work aims to give life to this. Javens’ illustrations are deceptively simple. He combines flat shapes with deeply textured colours to create images that one can get lost in. It is very easy to feel yourself knocking on the bears’ door alongside Goldilocks, or ducking behind the fence to see if they answer the door. This magical feeling transports the viewers elsewhere, which is the paradigm of great illustration.

Cecile Garcia is a printmaker and textile designer who loves colour, texture and mark-making. Her work is rooted in nature. She captures the essence of her subject through her use of unexpected colour and texture. Her work can be found as prints or paintings, but also as screen-printed fabric items. Her lampshades and pouches are particularly joyous. She exhibited her work in SCIP’s Garden Show.

Dave Bain is a Bristol-based illustrator and muralist. He works primarily from Jamaica Street Studios in Bristol. His work is brightly coloured and playful with expressive characters and familiar landscapes. Bain’s work can be seen in many major publishers, and elevating buildings. We could watch his animated name for hours. His work is inspired by riso printing techniques, picture books and mid-century illustration.

BIO

Denise Hoyle was born and grew up in Paris. Denise travelled to London in 1954 to become an au pair. She met artist Walter Hoyle who she married a year later. They moved to Great Bardfield in Essex to work alongside Walter's friend and tutor, Edward Bawden. Denise received no formal art training and is primarily self-taught. Denise has also painted for many years and continues to paint, often painting flowers from her garden, and old ceramics, or found feathers and shells.

Ella Beech is a children’s book illustrator based in Cambridge. She had a successful career in publishing before returning to education for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. From there, her artistic career took off. Since 2022, she has illustrated five children’s books, and has many more plans afoot. She works with traditional media, ink, watercolour and various types of crayons. She is a huge fan of messy play and happy accidents.

Emma Carlow is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer and printmaker, based in Lewes. She describes herself as using anything that comes to hand in her art and making. Her work is greatly influenced by folk art, and the openness that comes from that tradition. Her ceramic whistles and animals are playful and honest. Her friends describe her interest in ‘the thingness of things’. Emma, we don’t know what it means either, but absolutely agree that it’s right!

Emma the Llama – a nickname acquired at school in Seaford – is a Sussex-based illustrator. She works in a range of traditional media, often choosing the medium to suit her mood. She can be freer with paint and pastels, and tightly controlled with coloured pencils. Her local landscapes are calming and peaceful, and instantly recognisable from the sense of the place, not just the details of the location.

Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, needs no introduction. He is a musician and DJ who popularised the big beat musical genre in the 1990s. He has had a varied career in the music industry, playing with the Housemartins, Beats International and Freak Power, before releasing his first album as Fatboy Slim in 1996. He is having the time of his life creating his own music and focusing on his DJ performances, with regular events on Brighton beach. Alongside his music career, his artistic work has been in design and screenprinting. His work is immediately recognisable.

Faye Moorhouse is an artist and illustrator living and working in Hastings. She paints dogs, naked people and beast attacks. Gallit Shaltiel is a Seaford-based multi-disciplinary artist, whose work is currently being exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Show 2026. Her art is inspired by her inner world, and observational drawings. She creates hand cut silhouettes in card, and works from there to create 2D and 3D sculptural work. Her work is colourful and playful, bringing light and shadow to the forefront of our vision. With both figures and objects as the subject of her work, there is a variety, which also takes us on an exciting journey.

Garrick Palmer, painter, printmaker, photographer, was born in Portsmouth. He studied at Portsmouth College of Art and Design (1951-55) and then at the Royal Academy (1955-59). He later taught at Winchester School of Art from 1958-86 and became Head of the Foundation Department. He has illustrated numerous books with fine wood engravings. His work is held in many private and public collections.
