The NCNW, Inc. Queens County section has an annual Harambee Luncheon where we honor youth from the community who excel in academics, sports and/or the arts, and community service. Applicants are between the ages of 12 and 19 years old, live in one of the five boroughs of New York City or Nassau County. Applicants are nominated by section members and friends of the section. Applicants submit a one-page typed essay highlighting their scholastic achievements, club/organization affiliations, their achievements in sports and or the arts, and why they should beconsidered for the NCNW-Queens County Section Harambee Award. The scholarship amount is determined by honoree's grade level. During the luncheon, the honorees are presented with an award, a gift bag, citations from local politicians, and a monetary scholarship award.  This year is our 35th Annual Luncheon with the theme “Young Queens & Kings Leading & Building a Legacy" which exemplifies the 8 wonderful young people from our community that we are honoring this year!  Donations can also be made by check to NCNW, Inc. - Queens County Section, P.O. Box 340105, Jamaica, New York 11434. NCNW is a 501©3 not-for-profit, volunteer organization founded on December 5, 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. Our mission is to lead, develop and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities.
