VICTIM SERVICE NONPROFIT HELPING YOUR COMMUNITY IN CRISIS, IS FACING A CRISIS OF IT'S OWN! We help victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence in crisis every single day. In fact, we're here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year! It’s what we want to do. It’s what we are trained to do. It’s our passion to continue to help those that need it the most!  We have been a part of YOUR community for the last 45 years. We have been HERE for you, for your loved ones, and for your neighbor. What we do is provided with dedication, compassion, and determination and we do it all for FREE. We have recently found ourselves in our own crisis and we are turning to you and our communities for help and support. Further funding cuts could happen, forcing us to close our doors FOREVER! As you may have heard, our funding was drastically reduced! ...77% of our funding is gone for the next three years or more!... This isn’t because of something we did wrong or could have predicted or prevented, and it's certainly not due to declining needs for services. Sadly, the needs exist more than ever in our community. Our case loads have never been more overwhelming in the last 12 months and we've lost more than half of our staff in an instant due to these budget cuts! Lives WILL be lost due to the cuts in funding and the services we may not be able to provide in time! We know this may seem like a dramatic statement but it's very rational for all of us to fear a significant increase in murders and suicides due to family and intimate partner violence in our state and in the communities WE serve!  Did you know:<ul><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are victims of domestic and sexual violence? </li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">the most dangerous time in survivors’ lives is when they take steps to
leave a violent relationship?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">it takes an average 7 times to leave before a victim can leave for good?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">that seventh time is usually due to having the courage to seek services from an organization like ours?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">leaving violent relationships account for
over 40% of all DV homicides annually?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">Wisconsin is among the worst states in the country for victims of domestic
violence?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">1 in every 6 DV homicides in the United States is
committed in Wisconsin?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">42% of all DV homicides occurred in the rural areas of Wisconsin last year?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">85 lives were lost in Wisconsin due to domestic violence last year?</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">that equates to 1 deaths every 4 days in Wisconsin?</li></ul>We all know all too well that these are not just statistics. Patterns are predictable, and we're here to help victims recognize those red flags and warning signs. Now, at a time where we are forced into making impossible decisions and facing devastating situations within of a funding crisis reflecting on where resource priorities lie! How do we simply pick and choose?? The drastic changes our organization were forced to make to our operations, services, and structure were immediate!  <ol><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">Staff cuts to many that have spent years dedicated to serving victims and survivors.</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">Reduced occupancy in our shelter, from up to six families with 1-7 family members to now only one individual or family at a time! Significantly less shelter support staff means significantly less capacity in shelter. </li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">Staff cuts and office closures resulting in reduced services to our two rural outreach counties, Forest and Vilas Counties. </li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">Longer wait times for victims and survivors in all three counties to meet with a trained and dedicated advocate. We know crisis doesn't just happen Monday through Thursday between 8am and 4pm!</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-style:italic">Emergency victim assistance funds ELIMINATED, previously used to help clients overcome barriers to providing safety to themselves and their children. </li></ol>What do we need from YOU in our Forest, Oneida, and Vilas County Communities? Donated funds to support the services that we've had to lose, including:<ul><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">mileage reimbursement for our advocates who must travel to the most remote and rural areas in our service region.</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">outreach materials and supplies for our prevention, educational/training, support groups and awareness events so others can learn about the warning signs, healthy boundaries, support options, safety planning, and navigating different systems.</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">pulling funds from other grants focusing on direct needs of clients to be able to put our grants toward wages for two more advocates to once again provide full time services to those in Forest and Vilas Counties, leaving all donated funds to be used for everything else.</li><li style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">emergency victim assistance* to cover the costs associated with finding safety.</li></ul> *Emergency victim assistance means we can help take care of many of the barriers that victims often face while attempting to leave their abusers for good. (the very reasons why "they can't just leave")  ASSISTANCE COULD BE:<ul><li style="font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">changing the locks keeping the abuser out.</li><li style="font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">installing a security system inside or security cameras in and outside the residence to give them peace of mind and to capture evidence of further abuse, threats, and harassment.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">helping with rent for a new place if the abuser refuses to leave.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">covering past due utility bills that weren't able to be paid due to abuse and that would prevent them transferring their services to a new place. All available resources would be exhausted first and we can help navigate through those sources!</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">helping with car repair costs that were neglected or to take care of damages caused by the abuser.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">providing the costs and fees to regain their freedom by simply getting their drivers license after being forbidden to do so.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">replacing important documents like ID's, birth certificates, and other documentation that have fees associated with them. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">paying attorney/court fees to help with divorce cases, child custody, and restraining orders.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">providing the initial high costs of childcare due to losing at least half of the household income or perhaps the "free childcare provided" by the other parent at home.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">replenishing basic necessities to use in shelter and beyond, that they have had to leave behind in a hurry.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">helping victims start over in a new place with new furniture and appliances, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom supplies, and every day items we may take for granted after they leave with absolutely nothing.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">offering help with 3-6 months of storage fees for their important items and personal momentos, and large furniture/home items items since our shelter can't store those goods.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">providing cab cards/bus passes for those who've lost transportation or a vehicle by leaving. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">finding resources for and providing pet boarding fees/overdue vaccinations to ensure the safety of furry family members while clients can focus on the work to get back on their feet. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">helping with necessary prescription high medication costs that may have been left behind or taken away from them. </li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">assisting with high premiums and/or deductibles of hospital bills charged for injuries due to domestic or sexual violence. </li></ul>...and so many more costs associated with barriers to leaving their very dangerous situations, which could cost them their homes, their jobs, their children, their mental health, or their lives!...
