Help Light Forager build its first black soldier fly production box—a Houston pilot that will turn food scraps into useful resources, support healthier soil, and give our community a hands-on place to test circular food-waste systems. From food scraps to healthier soil:What if more of the nutrients in our food stayed in our communities instead of being lost as waste?Light Forager is raising funds to build our first black soldier fly production box in Houston. This pilot will give us a hands-on site to test circular food-waste systems and share practical lessons with growers, schools, families, and community partners.Black soldier fly larvae can process suitable organic scraps into useful biological material and frass that can be studied as a soil amendment when properly handled. By diverting those scraps from the landfill, the pilot will explore how nutrients can be recovered and circulated locally instead of being lost as waste.Why this pilot mattersThe production box will help Light Forager:

test food-waste recovery methods under real conditions;

divert suitable food scraps from the landfill;

document inputs, outputs, operating needs, and lessons learned;

create hands-on education about soil health and nutrient recovery; and

develop a model that can be improved and adapted for other communities.

What your gift will help fundDonations will help pay for:

the production box and essential components;

safe site preparation and installation;

collection, monitoring, sanitation, and recordkeeping supplies;

starter larvae or colony-establishment costs, if needed; and

educational materials, maintenance, and early testing.

Be part of the first buildYour donation will help move this project from a plan to a functioning pilot.
