Through generous donations by members of Eagle Harbor Congregational Church in Bainbridge Island, WA, Ushirika was able to purchase the desks pictured here. Students had been sitting three and four to their double desks, creating a much more difficult learning environment. We are proud and excited to report that through the hard work of the students, and hopefully the desks making a contribution, students of Ololchurra Primary scored in the top 25% nationally on their exit exams from primary level! This is a remarkable achievement for a rural village school with limited resources. We give a big shout out to all who donated and helped them attain their success.

One of our next projects is to improve the conditions in the girls' dormitory. Ololchurra is also a boarding school as many children in rural Kenya do not live within walking distance of a school and must board at the school. Long term, we hope to build new dormitories for the girls, and then the boys. This will be an expensive project. In the meantime, we can at least provide enough beds so that no one has to sleep on the floor anymore. We would like to purchase 20 beds and mattresses. As the girls sleep two to a bed, this will provide enough beds for all girls who are currently boarding, and few extra for expansion.

Another urgent need is teachers' desks. Currently there are no desks for teachers in any of the classrooms, giving them no place to prepare lessons and grade papers.
