2026 ANNUAL APPEAL Dear Friend of the Museum, History does not preserve itself. It takes people who care enough to make sure it is never forgotten. On November 11, 2026, the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the grand opening of our museum in Eastpointe. What began as an ambitious dream has grown into an 11,000-square-foot museum dedicated to preserving the stories of Michigan's citizens who served and sacrificed, both at home and abroad, from World War I to the present. Fifteen years ago, we were given an opportunity. The City of Eastpointe entrusted us with a building, and our small group of dedicated volunteers set out to transform it into a museum. We had big dreams, limited resources, and no guarantee of success. There were certainly people who wondered whether we would make it. Fifteen years later, we're still here. And we're not finished.Along the way, we have faced more than our share of challenges. From unexpected building expenses and financial setbacks to the COVID-19 shutdowns, there were times when the future seemed uncertain. But through determination, hard work, and the generosity of people like you, we persevered.Today, our museum houses an extraordinary collection of military vehicles, equipment, uniforms, weapons, photographs, and personal artifacts. More importantly, each of these objects helps tell the story of real people — Michigan men and women who served their country, worked in its factories, defended its freedoms, and helped shape our history. These are stories worth telling. And they are stories worth saving. This past year has been one of significant progress. In 2025 we addressed long-standing problems with our flat roof and in 2026 we replaced the shingled roof, giving the museum an entirely new roof over the collection. Our west exterior wall received much-needed attention, and our M8 Armored Gun System monument tank has become a recognizable landmark that attracts visitors and introduces new families to the museum. But progress has come at a cost.Major roof repairs, two unexpected HVAC failures, and the ongoing expense of maintaining an aging building have placed considerable strain on our financial resources. These are not glamorous projects, but they are essential. Without a safe, secure, and properly maintained building, we cannot protect the artifacts entrusted to our care. That is why we are asking for your support for our 2026 Annual Appeal.Your tax-deductible gift, to the extent permitted by law, will help us maintain and improve the museum, care for our historic collection, support educational programs, and keep our doors open to visitors, students, veterans, and families.Whether you can contribute $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, or more, your generosity makes a real difference. We are an organization built largely through volunteer dedication and community support. Every donation helps us accomplish things that would otherwise be beyond our reach. As we celebrate our first 15 years, we also recognize that the responsibility of preserving history never ends. The veterans who shared their experiences with us, the families who entrusted us with treasured artifacts, and the generations who will visit our museum in the future are counting on us to carry this mission forward. Someday, the last first-hand witnesses to many of the events we interpret will be gone. Their stories must not disappear with them. With your help, they won't.Please consider making a year-end gift to the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society. Together, we can protect what has been built, preserve the stories entrusted to us, and prepare the museum for its next 15 years and beyond.Thank you for believing in our mission, supporting our volunteers, and helping us preserve Michigan's contribution to the defense of democracy.Sincerely, Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society Fifteen years ago, we set out to create a museum that would honor Michigan's military heritage. Today, we are asking you to help ensure that this museum will still be here 15, 30, and even 50 years from now. Please make your 2026 year-end gift today. Your support today preserves Michigan's history for tomorrow. The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society Inc. #26-3923943 is recognized as a non-profit museum under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code.
