100% of your gift through Trek Relief directly funds the Nepal Red Cross Society on the ground. A Message from Candice, Trek Relief Nepal Program DirectorWe have chosen the Nepal Red Cross Society as our primary first-response partner because they are locally run, providing transparent and regular updates, and are already in the front lines—combining deep local roots with international capabilities. Empowering these local responders is the most effective way to save lives right now. Whether you choose to donate directly to the Nepal Red Cross or through Trek Relief, we fully support whichever option works best for you—our sole priority is getting help to the ground fast. The primary benefit of donating through Trek Relief is that your gift becomes 100% U.S. tax-deductible. We are retaining 0% in administrative fees for this campaign, ensuring every single dollar goes straight to front-line emergency responders. Urgent Situation UpdateOn August 26, 2026, a catastrophic glacial collapse along the Nepal-Tibet border triggered a massive surge of water, mud, and boulders down the Lhende Khola and Bhote Koshi river corridors without warning. We are in utter shock at the scale of this disaster. Torrential mudslides have torn through communities across the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. Entire villages were destroyed in seconds, multiple critical bridges collapsed, and tens of kilometers of mountain roads were completely wiped out. Over 160 lives have been lost, and hundreds of locals and international travelers remain missing. Our hearts are completely broken as we hear from our friends on the ground frantically searching for missing family members, friends, and neighbors. For Trek Relief, this tragedy hits home. Syaphru Besi—the heart of 14 Trek Relief expeditions where our volunteers walked the streets, played with local children, and worked shoulder-to-shoulder with community members—suffered catastrophic destruction. The primary school we rebuilt together over the course of 3 years in our very first project is now gone, along with precious lives and communities. Voices from the Ground"I am closely observing situation in my home town. Its mega terrible disaster. We fear most villagers (all relatives and extended family) didn't make it. ❤️‍🩹 Red circle is Syaphru Besi remnant.. also area were Trek Relief built school. Thankfully my parents were in Kathmandu during this monsoon and they survived. I am figuring out... to return to Nepal soon."— Sunil Tamang (Resident of Syaphru Besi) "Rasuwa boarder, ghatekhola village, Timure village, shyfru Bensi, many more village gone. I am in Tibet side at Jilong. All destroyed and very terrified by the news. Six of my wife relatives are still missing."— (Our Charitable Partner from Langtang) "Thank you so much for think of us in this difficult time. This has been really an unprecedented incident. It is very hard to believe the force of nature could be so destructive. Luckily non of us are in the flood area except for Pemba who is now stuck in Tibet. The unfortunate news is, he lost all his 80 group members in this flooding. Pemba will be back to Nepal in a next couple of weeks."— Binoy Rai (Trek Relief Trip Coordinator) A Reflection on Climate JusticeIn 2021, I had the privilege of attending the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow. There, delegates from Nepal delivered an unmistakable message to world leaders: it is inherently unfair that a nation contributing so little to global emissions is forced to sit on the front lines of climate devastation. They pleaded for global financial and technical support to withstand these intensifying monsoons and high-altitude disasters. To see this exact fear unfold again and again in the villages and with the people we love is heartbreaking. It reinforces why we must step up immediately to stand with them.
