In December 2000, Pastor Grigsby and his wife Emma opened their home to children in need who were left orphaned and homeless in Liberia after the civil wars of 1999 and 2003 resulted in countless deaths and homes destroyed. The need for a stable home, clean water and nourishment was evident and thus led to the creation of Lighthouse Ministries Children's Village (LMCV Liberia). Today, there are over 15 dedicated staff providing continual care for over 50 children at LMCV Liberia and education for over 150 children in the Mercy Bates School.   In Liberia, about 85 percent of the population lives below the international poverty line of less than $1.90 a day.
