Hi fam! We've introduced our unexpected, little Punky to the world, but what y'all didn't know was that we've been planning to take in two pot bellies from a terrible hoarding situation. We were contacted by another rescue in California that has been working on the case and asked if we could help. The whole rescue effort has taken over a year to complete. More than 220 pigs were barely surviving in horrible conditions without food and water, left to fend for themselves. All living in filth while inbreeding and being forced to bring malnourished babies into this world. The bonded pair we are taking in are almost 3 years old and don't weigh more than 30 lbs! They will stay small due to the extreme conditions they have suffered through. We were contacted a few months ago and have been waiting for the time to share the news of their arrival. They're coming all the way from San Diego, CA and several others have found sanctuary in Colorado and New Mexico as well. We expect them to arrive Tuesday next week! Before their arrival we need to prepare their area for them. We're able to use a few enclosures and supplies that we already have, but we need to buy a new gate, slow feeder bowls, treats, bedding and feed. We also have a spay appointment set for Punky in June. Pot bellies require slightly different maintenance than our big babies, so we need to make sure we're ready to welcome them to their zen until the end. With your help, we know we will be able to provide them with a life of love and specialized care for many years to come.
