Mishma Buisson:My name is Mishma Buisson, and I am from Haiti. Eight years ago, I entered the US on a Student Visa, and I attended the English Language Program at the University of Utah. After completing my English classes, I was able to transfer to BYU-Idaho to obtain my bachelor’s degree. However, this process was made possible with all the help that received from my family and the Highland 13th Ward, thanks to Michel. Having the opportunity to pay it forward to other hard working, determined, and self-motivated young women and young men inspired me to create “Let’s Help The Next,” a 501(c)(3)  Charitable foundation. One of the students that I had the chance to help, Divine, is from Malawi and is currently obtaining her bachelor’s degree in International Studies. She referred her friend Wanangwa to the nonprofit.  Divine Irakoze:My name is Divine Irakoze, and I am currently attending Brigham Young University-Idaho. I would like to bring to your attention the story of my friend Wanangwa, a student from Malawi who is in need of financial support to pursue his studies.Wanangwa Msiska is originally from Malawi. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Malawi, where he graduated in Economics with a minor in Psychology. He is a former colleague at “There is Hope in Malawi,” a nonprofit dedicated to providing support and assistance to refugees and vulnerable Malawians. Since our initial connection, we have become good friends, and I have been helping him explore opportunities to further his education. To provide a bit more of his background, Wanangwa comes from a family of three – his parents and two siblings are currently in Malawi. He was fortunate to secure an opportunity to pursue his education in the United States. As a result, he found himself here on his own, navigating the challenges and opportunities that this journey presents. Wanangwa’s Story:Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with limited opportunities. As one of many who grew up in that environment and having the experience, he made it his passion to eradicate poverty, not only in his family, but also in his country. I know this because I worked with him and from his previous work experience to help his country achieve this goal. He has worked for various organizations in Malawi that are dedicated toreducing poverty. These include “There is Hope Malawi,” where we worked with refugees and the host community, equipping them with vocational skills that will help them become self-reliant. He has also worked at “VisionFund Malawi,” where he provided loans to economically active, yet financially disadvantaged Malawians, helping them boost their businesses andimprove their livelihoods. He is currently facing some financial difficulties that are impacting his ability to continue his studies. He was accepted into the Master of Science inApplied Statistics program at Bowling Green State University to begin this fall. While he has successfully obtained an F-1 visa to study in the United States, he is struggling to cover the tuition expenses required for the program. Coming to the state was one of the hardest decisions he has ever made, especially with the fact that he did not have enough funds. However, Wanangwa knew that it was the only opportunity he had to leave his country to get an education so that he would be able to make a difference. Even if his initial plan failed, he chose to come and rely on his plan B: to work hard, apply for scholarship opportunities, and get a job so that he would be able to support himself.Knowing Wanangwa and how passionate he is about his education, he is definitely someone I can advocate for, and would be glad to see him receive help. I am truly grateful for any assistance or guidance you may be able to provide. Your support would not only help him overcome the current challenge but also contribute significantly to his educational and personal growth. Thank you!
