40 Acres in the Land of the Sky Alliance CDC

In 2020, the City of Asheville and Buncombe County created the Community Reparations Commission (CDC), a Black led, community-driven body, empowered to examine historical injustices and current disparities in Black Asheville/Buncombe and recommend solutions. Among the 39 recommendations developed was the formation of a 501c(3) nonprofit charged with continuing the work of the commission, monitoring the progress of initiatives, and augmenting or taking the lead on projects stemming from the commission&#39;s recommendations. 40 Acres in the Land of the Sky Alliance CDC (40 Acres LOTSA) is the manifestation of that recommendation. We are 7 former CDC commissioners, who are intimately familiar with the commission&#39;s recommendations and have spent the last 4 years dedicated to this venture. We strongly support the struggle to make Asheville/Buncombe the equitable, diverse, and inclusive community that it claims to be.
