Our IB Psychology classes are hoping to go on a field trip to Philadelphia in April! While the county has helped us out with transportation, we're looking for people to help us cut down on the out-of-pocket cost for each student to be able to join us in two amazing experiences: Stop 1- The Franklin Institute Students will examine The Brain exhibit to review course content such as neural networks, localization of function, neuroimaging, neuroplasticity, and cognitive biases. Students will also be given a chance to explore some of the other exhibits on Biology, Engineering, and Physics.  Stop 2- Eastern State Penitentiary Students will explore the history of the first penitentiary in the United States (the first prison in the United States to focus on rehabilitation, rather than punishment) in order to examine the historic criminalization of mental illness in the United States. Students will make connections to various psychological theories of criminology and examine the rise of mass incarceration in the United States.  These students have worked SO HARD this year to complete their Internal Assessment (a 4-6 page write up of their replication of a psychological experiment) and prepare for their External Assessment (a test of 5 essays) to earn college credit in Psychology through International Baccalaureate Program. Please help us fund this amazing experience and engaging opportunity for our students!
