This memorial is dedicated to AT3 Brad S. Canfield and SA Steven D. Berryhill, who lost their lives in the line of duty, and to the resilience of the surviving crew members. The plane and crew were based out of Kodiak, Alaska. The memorial will be prominently located in front of the commissary at USCG Base Kodiak, the highest foot-trafficked area on the base. Berryhill, as well as acknowledging the resilience of the surviving crew members.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Engraved Brick Viewing Area: Leading up to the memorial, the walkway will be paved with laser-engraved bricks personalized by donors, representing community support and remembrance.</li></ul>Incident HistoryOn July 30, 1982, a United States Coast Guard Lockheed HC-130H Hercules, designated CGNR 1600, embarked from Air Station Kodiak on a mission to transport personnel and cargo to the USCG LORAN station on Attu Island, Alaska. Severe weather caused a loss of visibility, leading to a tragic crash near Attu Island. This accident resulted in the loss of AT3 Brad S. Canfield and SA Steven D. Berryhill, with the remaining crew members surviving with injuries. The surviving crew members consisted of LT Mark Whyte, LT George Scherrer, AD2 Ken Sloboda, AM3 Dave Weise, AT3 Chris Young, AT3 Craig Michals, AE3 Mark Crocker, MK3 Ken Stevens, and Ms. Virginia Van Den Noort.
