Can you imagine a world without sexual Violence? A world with more equity freedom, joy, and consent? We can because for 40 years SAPARS has worked to help create that world. We have seen change. But, there is still much to do. And we need YOU to make it happen! We know that 1 in 5 people in Maine report experiencing sexual violence in their lifetime.* We also know that is a “tip of the iceberg” number because not everyone who has experienced sexual violence is comfortable reporting it, even on an anonymous survey.  (*2022 Maine Crime Victimization Report p. 37) Every day we receive several calls from sexual violence survivors looking to us as a source of support, a place to get connected to needed resources, and simply a soft place to land. As the only sexual assault support center in the Tri County area, SAPARS has provided a unique range of services for people in our community impacted by sexual violence for the last 40 years. SAPARS services include: <ul><li>a 24/7 helpline for people who have experienced sexual violence and people supporting them; </li><li>one to one advocacy; </li><li>support groups; </li><li>accompaniments at the hospital, reporting to law enforcement, or filing for a protection order; </li><li>trafficking and exploitation advocacy; and, </li><li>a wide range of prevention education programming in schools and the community. </li></ul> SAPARS is also the umbrella organization for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties (CACAFO). CACAFO provides wrap around services for children and families impacted by child sexual abuse using a multidisciplinary team model with community partners.  In 2023, we served 989 survivors with 3,450 hours of support and made contact with 4,500 individuals, community members, and other organizations. Our Children’s Advocacy Centers provided wrap around services to over 250 children/families. We also delivered over 800 prevention programs in our schools and communities. “For the past few years, I have been fortunate enough to be a recipient of SAPARS' services. Their compassionate support and skilled guidance have been life-changing. Having been to several counselors over the past 30 years, I can honestly say that SAPARS has benefited me more than all of them combined. They understand how sexual abuse, at its deepest levels, affects every aspect of a person's life, and they delve expertly into very specific and very insightful guidance. I think this is rare. And, had I not experienced their help first-hand, I would have doubted that a good outcome was even possible. I'm very grateful for their ongoing support.” Survivor In order to ensure that we can continue to provide this critical set of services and reach more people in need of our support we are launching a Capacity Building Campaign to raise $100,000 in the next six months. This funding will allow us to do outreach in some of the most rural communities, increase the number of people accessing our services, and strengthen community partnerships to increase referrals for services.
