When I started this non-profit, I discovered that creating art, listening to music/singing, and dancing, healed my brain and body from trauma. Now, 8 years later, science is proving that the arts can create new neuropathways that can physically heal the brain from trauma, ADHD, depression, and more. Emotional trauma and abuse can show up on a brain scan...so non-physical trauma can still impact your body physically. I realized this years ago that if that is true, the reverse can also be true. Change my behavior and environment, and I can heal my brain physically. In the modern mental health industry, the protocol is handing out pharmaceuticals and sitting with a therapist constantly rehashing your catastrophes...but why aren't the majority of people healing with these methods? One opinion is the focus has been on treating the symptoms rather than getting to the root core of the issues. When it comes right down to it, we need to focus on solutions that work and science is proving the arts aid in healing the brain.Many have been victims of abuse or crime or unforeseen circumstances who have no financial resources for the best and latest resources to heal from trauma. This is why I felt so strongly about starting a non-profit that provides classes, courses, and materials that aid in helping those heal through the arts.
