Girls on outdoor Adventure for Leadership and Science (GALS) of Eastern North Carolina is a new segment of the GALS program. North Carolina is a big state the GALS NC program is splitting into GALS of Eastern NC and western NC. Opportunities for Equity Outdoors and Two Sisters Adventure Company will be running GALS of Eastern NC. Opportunities for Equity Outdoors is 501c3 tax exempt. All donations are tax deductible.  Donations to this program will go directly to program operating expenses (food, lodging, travel, leader pay, leader training).  GALS is a FREE summer science program for high school students to engage with science while overnight camping and backpacking through the wilderness. GALS was created to increase hands-on science opportunities for students who are female or gender nonconforming, students of color, students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and other groups underrepresented in fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). During this two week experience, students learn ecology, earth science, and other topics by exploring surroundings with local scientists.  This mentally, physically, and academically challenging trip rewards students with a deep understanding of their natural surroundings and your own leadership strengths. GALS strives to cultivate a passion for environmental science and stewardship, develop leadership abilities, enhance critical thinking skills, and promote teamwork. This program provides students with the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in science and experiential education while immersed in a supportive community of peers.
