This donation will help us make Kayla Gomez’s dream of competing in the 2024 Olympics a reality.
Kayla has been preparing for this moment her whole life, from fighting for her life as a baby to diligently training every day. She is eager to be an example that anything and everything is possible with faith and determination.
As a baby, Kayla‘s epileptic seizures made El Paso Children's Hospital more familiar to her than her own home. Thanks to the intervention of the talented doctors, Kayla was able to outgrow those seizures by the age of 5, and only a few years later, she would begin training to follow her mother's footsteps into the boxing ring.
Kayla’s pursuit of this dream hasn't been easy. As Kayla's success in the ring grew, her path would begin to lead her to compete in other countries, a costly but necessary sacrifice that has been difficult for her family to afford. Kayla's success has been built through her sweat and determination, just as much as it has been built through the endless support of her mother and grandmother, who have given up so much so that Kayla could achieve her dream.
In 2021, Kayla was named USA Boxing Youth Female Boxer of the Year and earned a place on the United States National Team among 11 other fighters from across the country. To date, Kayla trains and prepares for the 2024 USA Olympics.
Kayla’s success reminds children born with epileptic seizures or health problems and their families that they can follow their dreams, too, no matter what challenges they may face.
Let's help Kayla bring home the gold and show the world the greatness that El Paso is made out of!
