Put one more Mississippi family on your Christmas list. One family. One Christmas. A whole lot of Mississippi heart. It can feel like we’ve barely finished buying school supplies before December arrives. But for some Mississippi families, the Christmas countdown brings worry along with the excitement. Parents are working overtime to keep bills paid. Grandparents are raising grandchildren on fixed incomes. Single moms and dads are making each dollar last until payday, and an unexpected expense can undo an already tight budget. Meanwhile, their children are counting the days until Christmas morning. Operation Porchlight Christmas brings neighbors alongside those families. We connect Mississippi families who need extra help with churches, businesses, individuals, and neighbors ready to help put Christmas under the tree. HOW ADOPTING A FAMILY WORKSFamilies seeking Christmas assistance apply through The Porchlight Initiative. Our team reviews applications and talks with families about their children’s ages, interests, needs, and Christmas wishes. Then we work to match them with participating sponsors. You can sponsor a whole family, join with friends or coworkers, or donate toward gifts for children who have not yet been matched. We’ll coordinate the details, provide the information you need to shop, and arrange gift drop-offs while respecting each family’s privacy. This isn’t about taking Mom’s, Dad’s, or Grandma’s place. It’s about supporting whoever is holding that household together, so they have help making Christmas happen for their children. YOU DON’T NEED A BIG BUDGET TO HELP.Adopt a family on your own, bring your Sunday school class together, or invite coworkers to sponsor a few children. Give toward gifts, or share Operation Porchlight Christmas with someone who may want to participate. Each family matched means another household has support—and a little more room to enjoy Christmas. READY TO ADOPT A FAMILY?Click the Adopt a Family button to begin. You can also text ADOPT to (601) 540-2765 or visit our office to learn how to take part. If you know a family seeking Christmas assistance, send them to followtheporchlight.org to complete the Operation Porchlight Christmas Family Application. Each application is reviewed individually, and assistance depends on available sponsors and resources. We cannot promise help for every family, but we’ll work hard to reach as many as we can. Adopt, give toward gifts, or help spread the word. Together, we can help Mississippi families face Christmas with someone beside them. We Fought for Life. Now We Fight to Live.
