SNAP benefits reduced, with deeper cuts coming with the implication of a &ldquo;Big Beautiful Bill&rdquo;. &nbsp;At the same time, Oregon Food Bank has lost roughly 40% of the federal food supply partner agencies like us once relied on. That changes everything. Instead of distributing food at scale, the food bank is increasingly acting as a wholesaler, passing purchasing power on to partners like us. Right now, we&rsquo;re sourcing staples like peanut butter for $1.41 a jar.&nbsp;And that&rsquo;s where this community steps in. &nbsp; Hand Up Project is proud to be the only Queer-founded and led partner agency open to the general public in Portland.&nbsp;We&rsquo;re built to show up differently&mdash;without barriers, without judgment, and centered in dignity. Hand Up Project is using that wholesale buying power to stretch every dollar as far as possible. Demand is rising. Even at wholesale our food expenses have risen 5 fold all while supply is shrinking, all while programs like ours are being quietly crowded out of the broader conversation.
