At Ballyshannon Middle School, we believe some of the best learning happens when students have the opportunity to create, build, experiment, design, cook, collaborate, and solve real-world problems. Our school serves approximately 575 students, and the Ballyshannon Hands-On Learning Initiative is raising funds to expand opportunities for students across our STEAM, Robotics, Design &amp; Modeling, Project-Based Learning, culinary, and other hands-on classrooms. These classes allow students to do more than simply learn about a concept &mdash; they get to put what they&#39;ve learned into action. Through hands-on projects and real-world challenges, students develop creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, perseverance, and practical skills that will benefit them throughout school and in whatever path they choose after graduation. What are we raising money for? One of our first priorities is expanding the resources available in our Robotics and Design &amp; Modeling classrooms. Funds will help provide:<ul fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">3D printers</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Chop saws and tools for hands-on building</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Filament and other 3D-printing materials</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Storage and organization materials</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Robotics, engineering, and design supplies</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Materials for Project-Based Learning activities</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Cooking ingredients, kitchen supplies, and culinary equipment</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Science, technology, and experimentation materials</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Additional supplies and equipment for hands-on student projects</li></ul>Many of these classes rely on specialized equipment and consumable materials that must be replenished as students complete projects throughout the school year. Donations allow our teachers to provide experiences and resources that may not otherwise be possible within a traditional classroom budget. Turning Learning Into Doing With the right tools and materials, students can move beyond simply learning about engineering, design, technology, cooking, building, and problem-solving to actually experiencing it. They can design something on a computer and watch it come to life on a 3D printer. They can plan a project, build it, discover what doesn&#39;t work, make adjustments, and try again. They can work with classmates to solve problems and see firsthand how the skills they&#39;re learning apply outside of the classroom. These are the experiences that can spark a new interest, uncover a talent, or even introduce a student to a future career they had never considered.
