And we have a pivotal year coming up, one that will help us significantly grow the programming, with better pay for our artists and a far wider reach than ever before. Here&#39;s what we&#39;ve got for 2026: The staged readings of our brand new Writers&rsquo; Lab plays in public locations all over the city.&nbsp;The goal of the Writers&rsquo; Lab is to address the fundamental problem of the unequal distribution of theatrical productions in New York City. The spring 2026 readings will serve as a first important step towards full production, allowing the playwrights to see how their narratives operate in their chosen locations, and giving their neighbors and surrounding communities the chance to respond to the work. In order to accomplish this, we need to hire 30 actors and five directors, the largest single hiring we&rsquo;ve ever undertaken. Producing Jack Towhey Calk&rsquo;s new play, written for and performed in an empty storefront on the mezzanine above the A/C/E train in 42nd Street-Port Authority subway station. The former record store has been empty for eight years. As the only play produced as part of the MTA&rsquo;s Vacant Unit Activation Program, this is our most ambitious project ever, and our goal is to double our weekly payment rates for our actors and stage manager, and to run the show twice as long as we usually do.
