Blackish in Spokane exists to help Black and biracial children, adults, and families feel seen, supported, connected, and emotionally safe.Healing and emotional regulation are at the heart of everything we do. Many of us were taught to hide our emotions, toughen up, stay quiet, or keep surviving without ever being given the space or tools to heal. We believe emotions are not weaknesses or problems to punish. They are signs of needs that have been met or left unmet, and learning to understand them can change how we relate to ourselves, our families, and our community.Black children are often judged more harshly for expressing fear, frustration, anger, or overwhelm. Adults may carry years of grief, racism, family trauma, rejection, and isolation without having a safe place to put it. Blackish in Spokane creates spaces where people can begin unpacking those experiences without shame or judgment.Through youth mentorship, family programs, healing circles, community conversations, and the Blackish in Spokane podcast, we help people name what they are feeling, recognize their triggers, understand the needs underneath their emotions, set healthy boundaries, communicate without causing harm, and develop safer ways to respond when life becomes overwhelming.Programs like Crowned in Confidence, Gentlemen&rsquo;s Circle, and Family Matters give young people and families practical tools for emotional awareness, confidence, healthy relationships, and healing. We also invite adults to examine what they were taught about emotions and learn healthier ways to support themselves, their children, and one another.What makes this work special is that it comes from lived experience. We understand survival mode because many of us have lived there. We are building the kind of support, representation, and emotional safety that we needed but did not always receive.Your contribution helps us train and screen volunteers, provide emotional-regulation and healing materials, create safe spaces for youth and families, produce honest community stories, and keep these opportunities accessible. Every gift helps build a community where Black and biracial people can feel without shame, heal without hiding, and know they do not have to do it alone.
