Blueberry Lab - Una Iniciativa de Soilmates

“Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they shall never sit in.”— Old ProverbYeah… we’re doing that — with fruit!Soilmates partners with the City to plant blueberries, figs, persimmons, pawpaw, blackberries, and pollinator plants across Norfolk. The goal is to support local resilience needs while turning underused spaces into edible landscapes and food corridors. Blueberry Lab was the pilot that mapped the civic pathways, built the alliances, and proved the model. Now we’re scaling the work through city partnerships, environmental collaborations, and neighboring communities, planting where it makes sense for the environment.Every late fall, around November, we plant the fruits sponsored by your Resilience Fruit Bond. You sponsor it, we plant it — in a place that helps the environment and community.Your Resilience Fruit Bond helps fund:• Fruit tree and shrub plantings (blueberries, figs, persimmons, pawpaw, blackberries)• Site prep, mulch, and long-term care• Pollinator and native plantings• Community planting days and educational installationsWays to support:• Donate below to fund the next plantings• Join a planting day (WhatsApp group)• Reach out to host a bush or tree at your home, business, or school• Tell 1 friendLet’s build a future rooted in food sovereignty and environmentalism. One fruit at a time.
