Founded 138 years ago in the pioneer town of Brownsville, Oregon, The Times has long served as an important source of local news and community connection. After financial challenges forced the newspaper to cease operations in December 2024, community members came together to revive and relaunch the publication as a nonprofit newspaper dedicated to serving Central Linn County. Since relaunching, The Times has returned to weekly publication, expanded local coverage, rebuilt subscriptions and advertising partnerships, and reconnected communities through trusted local reporting. But the work is far from over. Continued community support is essential as we strengthen operations, expand coverage, improve sustainability, and ensure the long-term future of independent local journalism in our rural communities. Our mission is to provide high-quality local journalism that informs, educates, and engages residents while fostering civic participation and amplifying a wide variety of community voices. We are building a sustainable nonprofit model supported by grants, donations, subscriptions, volunteers, and limited advertising revenue.
