For generations, Karen families in Northern Thailand have cared for elephants as part of their communities. But as forests and traditional livelihoods have disappeared, many families have had few viable options other than sending their elephants to commercial tourism camps. Wild Nomad Elephant Foundation was created to help change that. Through our Elephant Stewardship Program, we provide reliable, long-term support that allows elephant-owning families to bring their elephants home from tourism camps and care for them in free-roaming forest habitat. Mahouts remain with the elephants, monitoring their movements and helping guide them away from farms, villages, roads, and other areas where human-elephant conflict can occur. Our first goal is to support two elephants. Stewardship support is 15,000 THB per elephant each month, approximately $470 at our current planning rate. Raising $11,250 will fund one full year of stewardship for both elephants. This isn&#39;t about removing elephants from the people who have cared for them for generations. It&#39;s about giving families another economic option, one that allows elephants to live in the forest rather than relying on commercial tourism. Monthly donations are especially meaningful because these families need to know that support will still be there next month, and the month after that.
