What she found &mdash; or more accurately, what she could not find &mdash; told her everything she needed to know about the state of disability services in rural South Texas. Rather than accept that reality, Susan decided to change it. She founded Stomping Ground Ventures to create the program she had always wished existed: one that truly sees, values, and invests in adults with IDD and physical disabilities as whole people with unlimited potential.SGV opened its doors in 2020 with a clear mission and a personal passion driving every decision. Like so many small nonprofits, the organization faced an early and unexpected crisis when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a temporary closure. But Susan&#39;s commitment to her Pioneers &mdash; the cherished name SGV gives to every individual it serves &mdash; never wavered. In April 2023, Stomping Ground Ventures relaunched with renewed determination, offering a two-day-per-week program out of rented space at the Sutherland Springs Community Hall. It was a humble setting, but the work happening inside was anything but small.From its earliest days, SGV embraced a whole-person model that weaves together vocational training, life skills development, therapeutic activities, and community engagement. Pioneers have contributed to the community in meaningful, visible ways &mdash; supporting local disability dances, building enrichment swings for a wildlife sanctuary, creating artwork displayed in local businesses, and hosting inclusive community events that bring Wilson County together across lines of ability and background.Then, in April 2024, everything changed. SGV received a life-changing donation of 25 acres and the historic Mission House &mdash; a property that will become the organization&#39;s permanent campus and a true community hub for inclusive programming. The response from the community has been extraordinary.
