Help CAN Journal honor photographer and longtime arts journalist Anastasia Pantsios by sponsoring The Burlesque Virgin, a signature mocktail inspired by her work. The drink will be served at CAN Journal’s Annual Benefit on Saturday, November 14, at The Hall at St. James. This crowdfunding effort is being championed by Cleveland artist June Hund, who has invited the community to join her in recognizing Anastasia’s enduring contributions to the region’s cultural vibrancy. For the past several years, CAN Journal has celebrated Cleveland artists through dedicated cocktails served at special events. Each drink recognizes an artist’s distinctive voice and contribution to our cultural community. CAN is building toward a future Cleveland Artist Cocktail Book, which will preserve these tributes in print. Anastasia has spent decades documenting music, art, and the people who make Northeast Ohio’s creative community thrive. Through her photography and writing, she has informed, connected, and inspired countless readers, artists, and audiences. Sponsoring The Burlesque Virgin is an opportunity to recognize that lasting impact and show Anastasia how much her work means to this community. As June Hund writes:“Anastasia Pantsios has long been a vital part of the Cleveland art scene. She regularly uses her camera to document a variety of art gallery events and cultural activities in the Cleveland area. Her photography includes iconic rock and roll figures, especially women in the industry, as well as performances from Cleveland Burlesque shows. With her curious and playful spirit, the non-alcoholic drink embodies a uniquely creative and fun essence. Its catchy name and narrative quality make it a great conversation starter, much like our artist Anastasia Pantsios.” The forthcoming cocktail book will pair each recipe with an example of the honored artist’s work, biographical information, sponsor recognition, a cocktail glamour shot, and the recipe itself. Developed with Brown-Forman mixologists, these artist-inspired drinks celebrate Cleveland’s creative community while supporting CAN Journal’s work to connect, document, and strengthen Northeast Ohio’s visual arts scene.
