The Carver Food Enterprise Center is dedicated to strengthening our regional food system and expanding access to nutritious, locally produced foods. Our mission is to support farmers, food entrepreneurs, and community members by creating pathways to economic opportunity, healthy eating, and shared prosperity. We advance this mission in many ways: by offering an affordable, fully equipped commercial kitchen where small food businesses can launch and grow; by preparing wholesome, locally sourced meals through our Feeding 500 program; and by partnering with schools to develop Farm to School initiatives that connect children to fresh food from nearby farms. We are also expanding our capacity to provide light processing and copacking services to help local farms and food producers reach new markets (including schools and institutions) while reducing food waste. In addition, we offer hands-on job training and incubation education that equip community members with culinary, food safety, and business skills leading to employment and entrepreneurship.With the support of our partners, donors, and volunteers, we are working to build a more equitable, resilient, and community-rooted food economy-&nbsp;one meal, one student, and one small business at a time. There is a consistent need for funding for our Stone Soup Job Skills Training program and Feeding 500 initiative. It costs roughly $5,000 to train a cohort of ten Stone Soup participants, and approximately $2,500 to prepare nourishing meals for 500 people through a Feeding 500 event that utilizes rescued food and volunteer support. As the next phase of construction is completed, we will be able to expand the reach of both programs. We have structured the build-out of our kitchen facilities into three phases. This phased approach allows us to assess needs as we grow, responsibly leverage partner investments, and increase community participation throughout the process.To date, more than $2 million has been raised toward construction and equipment for Phase 1. We continue to actively fundraise to complete the facility. Construction projects anticipated for completion in 2026 include our copacking area, dish room, bathrooms, and shipping and receiving area thanks to a Resilient Food System Infrastructure Grant.
