I grew up with learning disabilities, and I know exactly what it feels like to sit in a classroom while everyone else&#39;s reading clicks and yours doesn&#39;t. I was lucky. I had people in my corner that could afford high quality tutoring. A lot of kids in PA don&#39;t have this support, especially those that are getting by on $30,000 a year (our median income level for students receiving our reading intervention). When the cost of private structured literacy is out of reach, students are left behind.&nbsp;So we made ours free! Today our reading instructors will work with over 250 students being tutored this year across more than 20 sites in Allegheny and Crawford Counties in Pennsylvania. They are paid local residents, so every dollar you give does double duty: it teaches a child to read and pays a neighbor building a career in education. And it works. Our students show significant improvements in grade level reading and improved confidence in school. That is a kid who stops hiding when it&#39;s their turn to read aloud. One caregiver put it better than I can: &quot;This program has been extremely helpful for my son. Over the last year and a half I have seen significant improvements in his ability to read multi-syllabic words, more confidence in reading, and his spelling and handwriting have also improved.&quot;&nbsp; And one of our tutors told shared,&nbsp;&quot;One of my students just told me that she read out loud in front of her class for the first time yesterday. She had never felt comfortable reading aloud, but her teacher could see that she was at a point of competency and encouraged her to participate. My student came in so happy at the start of today&rsquo;s session and let me know all about it. Big gains indeed!&quot; This is why we do what we do!
