“I thought I was the only one struggling so much. Now I know I’m not alone. Now I walk through school with much more confidence.” This is the voice of a girl from Afghanistan after only five sessions — and it shows how deep the need is. Many first-generation immigrant high school girls from Afghanistan and other communities are navigating a new country, cultural pressures, and the responsibility of helping their families — often with little space to focus on their own needs and growth. These are critical years. The right support can shape how they see themselves, how they navigate their families and communities, and what they believe is possible for their future."Let Her Shine" was created for this. An art-based empowerment program by IWIN, a Bay Area nonprofit empowering women and girls through art, "Let Her Shine" currently serves primarily Farsi-speaking immigrant high school girls in the East Bay.It helps girls strengthen their identity and self-worth, build healthier relationships with their families and communities, and begin to see themselves as leaders. The program grows with them: Self → Family → Community → Leadership We have seen the spark. Now we need to keep the light burning. The schools are asking us to return, and the girls are ready for the next step. Your support will help us go back, continue what we started, and bring the program to more girls. Be the bridge. Help her shine.
