Our goal is to raise and invest $100 million in the civic health of American communities. Reaching it means helping more communities build the capacity to act together, finish important projects, and take on bigger challenges. The Playbook is a proven approach that strengthens civic health. That’s the ability of people, institutions, and partners to work through differences, make shared decisions, and turn those decisions into action. In 2027, we’re taking that work further. You can invest in the Playbook as a whole or choose the area that fits your goals. In 2027, we’re taking that work further. This grant helps local leaders get that picture and move the plan toward implementation. Support from funders and partners helped City Thread award $670,000 in Playbook Technical Assistance Grants from 2022 to 2025.

Connect local leaders across communities We’re establishing the National Playbook Cohort, a model that gives communities the experiences, resources, and relationships to learn from one another and move projects forward.

Share practical tools We’re publishing the Playbook resource library, with guides, tools, and case studies that help local leaders move shared priorities toward delivery.

Fund the move from plan to project We’re establishing a dedicated philanthropic fund, the Playbook Implementation Fund. It gives communities the resources to move Playbook priorities into implementation without delay for lack of funding. Playbook investment has already helped communities move plans toward projects, from safer streets and connected mobility networks in Bentonville, Arkansas, to a shared goal for housing and water quality in Stone County, Missouri.

Fully fund the Playbook in Columbus Columbus was a Playbook Technical Assistance Grant awardee. Now we’re working to fully fund the Playbook there, starting with audience research, coalition development, and fund development for future work.

Communities already know what they want to build. Your investment gives their leaders the resources, relationships, and practical help to get it done. City Thread is a national nonprofit that helps communities turn ambitious plans into finished projects. Civic health is the foundation for that work: the trust, partnerships, and shared goals communities need to tackle hard challenges together. Using its proven Playbook, City Thread helps our partners build the coalitions and resources needed to deliver lasting results on a quicker timeline.
