Meet Oakley 💛Oakley is a 9-year-old Yellow Lab who came to Adoption First Animal Rescue from a shelter in Georgia. At 42 pounds, she should be enjoying the comfortable, easygoing life every senior Lab deserves. Instead, Oakley arrived needing quite a bit of medical care.Oakley tested positive for heartworms and has already started the long process of treatment. She is currently completing her doxycycline stage and will eventually need three heartworm injections. Because of her size, Oakley requires two vials of Diroban for each injection.But heartworms aren&#39;t Oakley&#39;s only medical concern.Oakley is also struggling with incontinence. To make sure there wasn&#39;t a more serious underlying problem, we have completed two urinalyses and two rounds of bloodwork. She is now beginning medication to help control her incontinence.Between her diagnostics, medications, heartworm treatment, prevention, and supportive care, we expect Oakley&#39;s medical expenses to total approximately $715.We&#39;re asking our community to help us cover that cost&mdash;one small donation at a time.$5 helps. $10 helps. $20 helps.Every donation gets Oakley a little closer to having her medical care covered and gives our rescue the ability to continue saying yes to senior dogs who need us.Oakley didn&#39;t get to choose heartworms or the medical challenges that came with getting older.
