🌟 Join us in creating a healthier and safer environment for our cats! 🌟 At Catty Corner, we know that change starts with people like you. Every act of kindness, every dollar, and every moment of your time brings us closer to achieving our mission. Together, we can make sure that the cats in our facility are happy and healthy while they await their furever homes. Our organization was officially established in 2023 as Second Chance Strays. The original mission was to take in cats from all situations: feral cats, ill cats, cats in need of rehoming. However, this mission proved to be impossible, and by 2025, with over 200 cats and kittens living in the facility (many of which were suffering from upper respiratory infections), a new strategy was necessary. A new executive director was brought in and under a new operational strategy, new protocols have been established and a rebranding has taken effect. Now, veterinary expertise has been brought in to help create a healthy, appropriate space for cats to live until they are adopted. The population of cats per space has been updated, regular vet check-ins happen weekly, and our cat residents are happier and healthier. Through adoption events, community engagement, and increased social media presence, our adoption numbers have skyrocketed, and Catty Corner’s cat population has significantly decreased. As we continue improving our strategies and space, we are finding better ways to maintain a healthy cat population. We are currently conducting a facility-wide cleaning and sanitization process. The final step in this process is to install Aerapy's UV Light Disinfectant Technology in our free roam rooms and in our sick space. According to Aerapy: "Indoor animal care environments are continually exposed to viruses, bacteria, mold, allergens, and other pathogens that can quickly contaminate air and surfaces — and stay active and infectious for extended periods of time — putting at risk animal and human health and lives . . . Germicidal ultraviolet (UV) light is a well-established means of disinfection used to help prevent the spread of these threats. Aerapy’s study-backed, tested, and certified equipment harnesses the power of UV-C light to kill pathogens or render them harmless."  We believe that this technology will drastically reduce upper respiratory infections among shelter cats, while also preventing other common shelter-borne viruses. Between ordering the technology and the installation, we are looking at costs of at least $7,000. We are asking the community to help us raise the necessary funds to make Catty Corner the safest and healthiest shelter possible for our cats, visitors, and adopters.
