We desperately need the support of our awesome FCAR family and followers.  This sweet 7 week old shepherd mix puppy lovingly known as Grizz/Grizzly Bear needs emergency surgery TODAY to give him a chance to survive.  We can’t guarantee his outcome at this point, but he has such a will to live that he deserves a fighting chance.   Grizz is currently en route to Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, MD to have emergency surgery this evening.  His estimated surgery cost will be $5000. He has so much will to fight, and we desperately want to give him the chance to do that, and need your help raising the funds for his surgery.   Grizz was discarded in a box at the shelter at approx 1 week old. When food was introduced around 4 weeks of age he had recurring issues with regurgitation and couldn’t gain weight like his siblings. X-rays were taken and were consistent with persistent right aortic arch (PRAA).  As a result of the developmental error, a blood vessel improperly encircles the esophagus, causing food now being able to pass through the esophagus into the stomach. Without surgery, puppies with this condition will die from starvation. Grizz has already had one open chest surgical procedure to attempt to correct the issue, but his regurgitation did not improve afterwards.  Unfortunately, his case requires more advanced, specialized care with board certified specialists.  Grizz is withering away due to his condition, yet still, he maintains his sweet, happy, snuggly personality.  He still gets so excited for his tiny meals that are offered ever 1-2 hours. We know that Grizz’s outcome cannot be guaranteed, but he has never stopped fighting, so we aren’t ready to stop fighting for him either.
