This has been a tough year for many nonprofit organizations and ours is no exception. For the first time in 6 years, we are at risk of having to pause our outreach program entirely for the upcoming school year.&nbsp; In past years, we&rsquo;ve received triple the amount of grant funding that we&rsquo;ve received this year. Many funders are describing this as the most competitive grant funding landscape they have ever seen. &nbsp;The trickle down effect is that smaller rural nonprofits like this one aren&rsquo;t being funded as readily as in the past.&nbsp; We have several grant opportunities open right now, but they require a 1:1 match. If we can raise $10,000, we can unlock funding that would otherwise be out of reach. That&#39;s why we&#39;re asking our long-term students and families to help us crowdfund this match. Every year, we&#39;ve expanded to serve kids in Cascade Locks, Mid-Valley, and Parkdale&mdash;kids who wouldn&#39;t otherwise have access to programs like ours because of cost or transportation. We work directly with the Hood River County School District&#39;s Excel program to reach the students who need us most. Afterschool coordinators tell us it&#39;s consistently the kids&#39; favorite time of year. At all the schools, they beg us to come back more frequently. Why this matters:This year, a young girl named Aurelia&mdash;eager but hesitant, in a bigger body than most of her peers&mdash;struggled during her first class to lift herself onto the trapeze. Instead of leaving her out, our instructor offered a simple adaptation. With a small support, Aurelia was soon swinging confidently, mastering the same skills as everyone else. By the end of class, she was beaming. &quot;Fue dif&iacute;cil pero me encant&oacute;,&quot; she said. &quot;It was hard but I loved it.&quot; We&#39;ve had students on the autism spectrum who don&#39;t typically rush to join group activities&mdash;rushing to join ours. We&#39;ve had a student with her arm in a sling refuse to sit out, then tell us afterward, &quot;This is better than a field trip! I wish I could do it every day.&quot; We&rsquo;ve had innumerable kids express facing hardships, at home, at school and out in the world that get to simply experience the simple joy of moving their bodies in a fun new way. &nbsp; This is what&#39;s at stake if we can&#39;t secure this match funding. Will you help us reach $10,000? Every dollar brings us closer to unlocking the grants that keep this program alive for kids who need it most.
