Eileen supported her daughter Erin&rsquo;s work as a genetic counselor with iHope, a program of Genetic Alliance. iHope provides free genomic testing to children with serious, unexplained medical conditions, especially those in low- and middle-income countries where testing is otherwise unavailable. Last year, iHope helped 600 families, and this year we aim to double that reach in countries such as Zimbabwe, Peru, Mexico, and Ghana. This mission was deeply personal to Eileen. Her nephews, Terry and Alex Shiota, passed away in early childhood from an undiagnosed genetic condition. At the time, genetic testing was not advanced enough to reveal the cause.
