The scholarship was launched in 2026 in memory of Dr. Robert Finberg, Chair Emeritus, and Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the UMass Chan Medical School (UMCMS), Worcester MA. Dr. Finberg was Chair of Infectious Disease at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Professor of Medicine (Harvard Medical School) before moving to UMCMS in 1999. Dr. Finberg was an internationally renowned physician-scientist, infectious disease researcher, virologist, administrator and educator. He was an integral part of the ICHS, as a dedicated council member, and avid advocate for mentorship. Brilliant, warm and generous Dr. Finberg cared deeply about training the next generation. The awards will provide direct financial assistance that allows each scholarship recipient to travel and fully participate in ICHS symposiums, educational programs, networking and skill-building sessions.
